60. THE FORMER CUSTOMS Traian Bridge/ Timişorii Avenue

The building near “Traian” Bridge was raised in the early 20th century; for two decades it was used for the offices of the municipal customs. The manufacturers and traders who would arrive in Arad from the region of “Banat” had to pay customs taxes for the goods and for the wagons which crossed to the other side of the Mureş River to enter the city. On the facade of the one-floor building one can distinguish the coat of arms of the city with the three church towers, with the fortress, an arm holding a sword in its hand, and the curled ribbon symbolizing the Mureş.
