18. CATHOLIC CHURCH AND PARISH HOUSE no 33 Timişorii Avenue

The first church was built in 1727 by Swabish settlers. The current Roman Catholic Church in Aradul Nou was erected between 1812-1821, and it also bears late Baroque elements. The church having one nave was consecrated in honour of the Virgin Mary, the painting over the main altar representing the Virgin with the Child. The house is the oldest dwelling house in the city. It was built in 1725, for a short time being used as a Franciscan monastery; later on it became the Roman Catholic Parish of the Swabish community from the locality. Although it has undergone several changes, the building kept its original Baroque style: at the entrance one can distinguish the jutty with Baroque ornamentation.
